When Is It Time To Become A Solo Hair Extension Artist?
Jan 10, 2024 I want to answer a few questions that I am often asked about going solo.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WORKING IN A SALON AND BEING A SOLO ARTIST?
Think dollar bills! Booking your own clients, in charge of your schedule, less than $50,000
Salon makes the other $50,000.
Can make all the decisions, order from your preferred company's, you're your own boss.
WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO LEAVE THE SALON AND START YOUR OWN BUSINESS?
Want to have the freedom to spend more time with their families. As a stylist we are working weekends, all hours of the days and working for someone you don't really have the choice to make your own hours.
WHAT IS THE BIGGEST LESSON THAT YOU HAVE LEARNED SINCE GOING SOLO?
Why didn't I do it sooner. I should have done this sooner. Why did I give so much time to this other salon when I could have done it for myself.
WHAT ARE THE TOP 5 TIPS YOU WOULD GIVE SOMEONE TRYING TO BRANCH OUT AND GO SOLO?
Education- Continue education
Create a business name and branding that matches your ideal clientele.
Get social- Gain the know like and trust factor. Educate the client through your posts. Find out what they want not what you want for them.
Stop trying to be great at everything- Hone in on a few great things. It's better to specialize ina few things and become great at that, than trying to be great at everything,
Get accountant- Like yesterday- Get organized
Collaborate- Competition is a thing of the past.
Get over yourself! When you stop thinking about yourself you can focus on how others feel and how you can serve them.
Focus on someone in pain and help them.
HOW DO YOU FIND YOUR CLIENTS?
In a salon environment clients can be anywhere. Get people talking.
Network with other artists in the beauty industry.
Think outside of the box you get people talking.
Social media is your best friend. Think about where your ideal client is shopping or going and market to them there.
Do you think you're ready now!? It can be scary and overwhelming idea, I get it... But you have to think, it could also be the best thing for not only you, but your clients and family! So as Nike says... JUST DO IT! Get yourself out there and do what you know is best!
