Flat Box VS Rolled In Keratin Bond Hair Extensions

Keratin Bonds, also known as Fusion, is the top method of hair extensions in salons today. I work with some fantastic brands like SHE by So.Cap (not to be confused with the not-so-twin So.Cap), Great Lengths, YVR, and more, all of which I share during our two-day Mastery Class.

Let me tell you a little story. When I first moved to the US, I desperately needed my hair done. I was newly married, didn't know anyone, and finding a stylist who knew how to apply Fusion Extensions to my fine hair was a nightmare. After a horrific experience, I decided to take matters into my own hands and opened my first business, My Long Tresses, in Baltimore. 

One of these horror stories involved Fusion Hair Extensions. The stylist applied the extensions too close to my roots, causing Alopecia. The bonds were rolled (big no-no for fine hair), there was no buffer between them, which led to matting, and the hair tangled and knotted after just a few washes. I was promised Great Lengths Hair Extensions and paid $1500, only to be lied to and taken advantage of. With a small budget, this was a devastating blow.

Here’s the deal: 90% of Extension Companies teach you to roll extensions in. But think about it, would you rather have extensions that sit flat and protect your natural hair or little grains of rice popping out and easily detected?

The first isn’t mine, but it demonstrates why flat box fusion is superior. Salons in NYC and LA offer flat box fusion for a reason! Although some social media posts show impressive results with rolled bonds, those are heavily customized. I stand by flat box fusion because it's undetectable, sits flush, protects natural hair, and reduces stress for the client. When someone touches her head, she won’t feel those pesky bonds.

In my classes, I teach flat box fusion and even touch on rolled keratin bonds to provide stylists with the most comprehensive education.
