Why We No Longer Recommend Olaplex for Hair Extensions

As hair extension artists providing luxury services, we always strive to recommend the best products for our clients' natural hair and their hair extensions.
Remember when everyone was raving about Olaplex? We started off raving about it too—until we began seeing the results.
Before I get into why we aren't recommending Olaplex to our clients anymore, I’d like to point out that everyone is different, including hair types, the kind of salon you own or work in, and the clients you may bring in. I'm not here to shame anyone who offers Olaplex; I'm here to share my experience with the product and how I've seen my clients' hair change.

Hair extensions have already gone through a lot before reaching the salon. They've traveled across countries and undergone various treatments, which means they require extra care to maintain their quality and longevity.
While Olaplex is often hailed as a miracle product for hair, it's crucial to understand what it does and doesn't do:
Olaplex is a bond protector, designed to maintain the structure of the hair during and after chemical treatments. It's highly effective at protecting hair from damage caused by ammonia, peroxide, and other harsh chemicals.
Contrary to popular belief, Olaplex is not a conditioning treatment. Many salons market it as such, but its primary function is to preserve the integrity of the hair's bonds.
Our experience has shown that Olaplex can be drying for hair extensions, and depending on the person, their natural hair as well. This can cause extensions to matte and tangle more easily.
Given these findings, we believe that using Olaplex on hair extensions can do more harm than good. We’ve seen that extensions treated with Olaplex can become difficult to manage, and the dryness can lead to an unsatisfactory experience for our clients.
We now work exclusively with Virtue Labs products. That may sound crazy, but after having several salons and offering every service, I’ve seen that my clients stopped reaching for other products and our Virtue products began selling out! I myself have experienced major changes in my hair, and my clients’ hair has also improved after using these products.
