Let's Talk Hair Extension Methods
May 15, 2024Hair extension methods... There are a wide range of methods out there and it can get a little confusing especially because there can be 10 different names for just one method! So, let's talk about some of the most popular methods and their differences!
Let's start off with Tape-ins... A method that had grown very popular in the past couple of years and now people are seeing the damage that it has cause. Tape in hair extensions involve attaching wefts of hair to your natural hair using a double-sided adhesive tape... ADHESIVE TAPE... Like seriously, how is that healthy for anyone's hair!? They are able to lie flat against the scalp, but they don't have any flexibility. They are also reusable but leave residue behind on your clients hair. They are great for stylists to start off with because they are a quick install, but I believe it's important to also venture out and learn more non damaging methods.
Next we have one of my favorite methods, which is beaded rows. This method is attached using silicone lined beads with either hand tied wefts or machine tied weft hair extensions. This is a 6-8 week maintenance method and if you are using great quality hair, the hair can last over a year for your clients as well! A handful of my clients love this method. It's easy, non damaging and there's so many ways you can manipulate your sectioning to personalize the best placement for your clients!
Ever heard of keratin bonds? They are also known as warm fusion hair extensions! Ktips are my favorite method of them all, and I personally believe this method is one of the more "luxury" methods out there. They are more expensive and not everybody is a candidate for these! They are free flowing and there is no maintenance between the 4-5 month wear, which is great for those busy clients!
The hair extension industry offers a wide range of methods, each with its own unique benefits and drawbacks. The key is to move beyond the quick and easy options and explore the various non-damaging methods that can provide long-lasting, high-quality results.
