Overcoming Self-Doubt as a Hair Extension Educator

I can still vividly remember my very first trade show in Orlando. It was an experience that changed the course of my career but not without a fair share of self-doubt. Unlike the surrounding booths with their eye-catching displays, flashy tools, and trendy gadgets, I had nothing to sell. No products, no elaborate setups—just a small booth dedicated to one thing: education.

And honestly? It felt daunting.

I would strike up conversations with anyone who shared the same love for "hair extensions." But beneath my enthusiasm, there was a nagging voice asking, "Am I enough? Can I really make a difference without products to sell?" I felt small, overshadowed by the big-name brands with their shiny displays. It was hard not to feel like I didn't belong.

But here's the thing: I didn't let those doubts stop me.

Fast forward more than a decade, and now, I found myself back at the Premiere Beauty Show—only this time, things look a bit different. I’ve got decades of experience under my belt, a clear vision for the future, and a deeper understanding of what it takes to truly make an impact in the hair extension industry. But my passion for helping stylists build their skills? That’s still very much the same.

So, what changed between then and now? I kept going.

I refused to let self-doubt hold me back. Instead, I focused on what I could offer: knowledge, guidance, and a genuine desire to see others grow. I kept learning, kept expanding my skills, and most importantly, I stayed true to my mission—helping stylists like you find success in your own careers.

We’ve all been there, right? That moment when you question if you’re on the right path, if you’re truly making a difference, or if you’ll ever reach the goals you’ve set for yourself. It’s tough, especially in an industry as competitive as ours. But here’s what I’ve learned along the way:

Growth doesn’t happen overnight, but it does happen when you keep moving forward, even on the hard days.
